We realized recently that our contact page has not been working properly. On the surface, everything looked like normal. If you tried to contact us you would be told that your message had been forwarded to us.
But unfortunately, the message was never forwarded to us. We have no idea how long it has been like this or how many contact requests we have lost.

D1 Radar Sensor available for order

A visit to the Robotics Innovation Challenge 2012

9th of February Elias and I attended the Robotics Innovation Challenge. It was great fun and we met a lot of interesting people. Below are a couple of pictures from the Innovation Catwalk. Very cool concept and we are looking forward to next year!

See-through-wall robot

Our Chief Developer, Jonas, has equipped a robot with our D1 radar sensor, thus enabling it to see through walls. In the video below, you can see the very cool result:

How it works:

In the heart of the D1 radar sensor is a radar chip based on Ultra-Wideband (UWB) radar technology from Novelda (www.novelda.no). An UWB radar sensor sends out electromagnetic pulses and looks at the pulses that are reflected back. When an electromagnetic pulse hits the wall in the video above, a part of the pulse is reflected back to the radar and a part of it penetrates the wall and is reflected from the cabinet behind the wall.

The D1 radar sensor has several interesting functions. One of them is the ability to set a blind zone on demand. In the example above, the blind zone has been set at 1.5 meters, so that the sensor ignores everything up to 1.5 meters. Since the wall is closer than 1.5 meters it is being ignored and the distance to the cabinet behind the wall is returned by the sensor instead. The robot is programmed to always keep a distance of 2 meters away from it. Therefore, you see the robot move in accordance to the movement of the cabinet behind the wall.

Enclosure design of D1 Radar Sensor arrived

Today, the prototype of the enclosure for the D1 Radar Sensor arrived!

Jonas and Elias puts on their coolest look and shows off the design:

The enclosure was designed by 360 Grader Produktdesign who did a great job!

Today, Elias soldered the first version of the hardware design for the radar chip. This is a fundamental part of the D1 radar distance sensor:

There were some hickups, but we managed to get it running after a while!
